it might be difficult to clean...

(Fri, 01 Sep 2006 11:14:46 GMT) joie de Winter says

Hi nino, thanks for comment. Cleaning seemed to be no problem when I was testing it. Got all kinds of people to test them out for me, thin fingers and chunky fingers. The best technique to clean was to just force the sponge of cloth between the gap. One persons technique was to pour abit of boiled water in the mug and use the handle like a spout. Thanks. Are you a biscuit dunker?

(Tue, 05 Sep 2006 03:15:27 GMT) JD says

i like it, and i agree with nino saying cleaning may be harder, also there is no handle, is there a way of incoorporating a handle for hot drinks in there

(Tue, 05 Sep 2006 17:34:28 GMT) Joie says

jd It seems hard to clean and its hard to proove it over digital maybe I can put a video on u tube for viewing will let you know soon. The idea behind this mug is to keep the design language simple, trying not to create a new mug form I add a discreet change. The handle is the same feature of where you dunk your biccie. It has tapers on it and a patch where it is non glazed for grip. I have experimented with many solutions but I may chuck some more in the kiln to experiment. Thanks jd joie

Needs more handle.

...obviously not a hot drink pictured else the guy would burn his fingers, problems ahead with this one...

(Mon, 25 Sep 2006 13:16:27 GMT) Joie says

Hi Navpaq, The handle has a double wall thickness built into the handle so this stops heat burning. It was developed at EKWC if anyone is interested in ceramics thats a great place to try and work for 3 months. Thanks joie

(Fri, 20 Oct 2006 09:45:14 GMT) acmw says

From the picture, I assume it only works with a full cup?

(Fri, 20 Oct 2006 11:28:51 GMT) Syllogism says

Just use a bigger mug, and as acmw says your dunking potential is limited. Will probably be wildly successful despite it's impractically. Sentimental stuff sells.

(Fri, 20 Oct 2006 11:28:56 GMT) Joie says

Your completely right acmw. When you look at the way the english dunk biscuits your find this added handle space is only needed for the first dunk when the biscuit is too big to fit into the diameter of the mug. Half of a mcvities digestive has no problems dunking away. I found dunking biscuits occurs when they are waiting for there tea to cool down, so in theory there should be enough tea to soak up. Otherwise I found a good technique is to slightly tilt the mug and allow tea to enter into the handle. Yum yum There is a great book called nice cup of tea and a sit down by mr.nicey if you are interested. Thanks, joie

Jimbo.... That has put a smile on my face hearing a swear word describing my work. I can retire now, hee hee.. I have about 10 as prototypes, but they are not in production. sorry. Have had allot of interest so I will let you know if or when they make it to the production line. It will be nice to get an email from you to keep you on record. Thanks so much for your comments. joie

My definition of cool is: something that is both very clever and very funny. This is way fukn cool Jole. I like things that have a second function they were not necessarily designed with--you could use this as a gravy boat or similar too. I want.

A) get a bigger glass B) take 3 bite out of a cookie and the cup no longer fills a purpos other then spilling milk down your shirt when your not paying attention . silly idea

(Mon, 06 Nov 2006 20:30:59 GMT) poof says

Might be great for dunking, but I think when you went to take a drink, you'd end up with the liquid all over the place coming out of the offset. Years ago there were tea mugs made with a place on the side for the used tea bag and that's what happened when you tried to drink.

(Tue, 07 Nov 2006 07:15:00 GMT) jkae says

can you make one for those oreo cookies?

(Mon, 13 Nov 2006 15:34:58 GMT) Timo says

I personally don't see much use for this but that's probably because I'm not a dunker.

(Wed, 15 Nov 2006 19:08:17 GMT) joie says

Hi everyone, firstly aaron, yes its the obvious to do these things, get a bigger glass but its about appropriate form, using form to strengthen the context and add a little more meaning to mundane objects. Its a celebration of english culture with our everyday objects.

(Wed, 15 Nov 2006 19:10:06 GMT) joie says

Timo, everyone interpret's it differently,

(Mon, 20 Nov 2006 02:37:17 GMT) Jen says

Theres no handle. This will be a problem if you had a hot drink like coffee in there. But it would probably work for milk and cookies. Still, just take a bite so it will fit in a normal cup. A waste of money.

(Wed, 22 Nov 2006 00:00:38 GMT) Hmmm says

What happens when the glass is half empty?

(Wed, 29 Nov 2006 18:23:51 GMT) joie says

hmmmmm, Hi when its half empty you should be full up with biscuits already. My suggestion is have another cup and put your feet up, also have another pack of biscuits on reserve, enjoy, thanks joie

(Thu, 07 Dec 2006 22:47:06 GMT) Ongthrook Zul Threep says

Dunking buiscits is an art based on exquisite sensitivity to timing. There is an instant of perfection which occurs between the immersion of the biscuit and the soggy bit falling off. Most people break the biscuit in half and dunk about a third of that to ensure it will actually reach their mouths. This contraption immerses fully half of biscuit. For expert users only !

(Fri, 12 Jan 2007 13:21:17 GMT) joie says

I am very happy there is someone who aknowledges the art of dunking biscuits. It's a very mundane activity but holds a great importance in british culture. Keep your eyes open for peoples techniques of dunking, some break in half, some dunk and turn, some just mess it all up together. I have witnessed unfortunate attempts to save the soggy biscuits with fingers, running to get a spoon, and some not noticing then finding a nasty surprise when they reach the bottom of there tea. Biscuit sludge is not a great way to end a nice relaxing cup of tea. Anyway back to work. take care everyone, happy new year joie

Being from the US I am not very familiar with "Biscuit Dunking", but this is a cool idea that expands on a common item, extending it's functionality. Nice one!

(Mon, 05 Feb 2007 12:15:40 GMT) joie says

saibot, Thankyou so much for your nice comments. Its nice you can appreciate the art of dunking. I recommend you try at home, on a cold day, or after work, come in put the kettle on, take you shoes off, put them up and grab a couple of biscuits, mcvities make the best dunkers, digestive that is, dunk and sip and you should find a sense of warm, comfort and relaxation.

It's too specialised for me to buy, but I like the idea. Is it more tippable than regular mugs?
