A portable 4G hard drive that sits in your pocket (textured and slightly cold).
It creates a different user experience from existing portable hard drives.
Hi NAVPAQ,
Maybe I do...
This product aims to connect to the user on an intangible level - building on familiarity and resurrecting memories.

Looks brilliant especially if the rock bit has the feel & texture or a real rock, however what about the cable? It sort of ruins the experience. maybe a wireless version ?
Good point 9Lives.
I chose a cable, as wireless would make the stone considrably bigger - batteries, battery door, components, etc.
The cable could be designed, but I wanted to keep things simple.
Maybe a retractable 1.5 foot long cable? I've seen retractable Cat5 Ethernet cable before, for example.

i understand its different. do people like carrying a rock around though? USB devices are often cold and sterile, and a rock, to me, is not the best alternative in nature.

Wtf? Bad idea. The only idea that would come out of this is to hide mass storage devices in bricks to weigh them down so theives dont steal important data.
as my lecturer used to say , great idea !
(but far from a design)

Looks like you just used Photoshop to "plug" a usb cable up to a rock. Neat idea, but purely conceptual and needs much more thought.

I want one...love the symbolism: the stone of wisdom is transmuted into simply the stone of information; or the rock of faith. And it would feel nice in your pocket. we need more organic styled hardware
The only memories resurrected for me are ones of throwing rocks... That's probably not a good idea when it comes to current data storage devices. If you want to resurrect memories, why not cross taxidermy with portable storage devices. "Damn! That dead parakeet USB storage device is totally killer!" At least then the user will take good care of their data.

hmmmm interesting but its acually quite big if you look at the computer next to it so wud be annoying to carry about a big rock
also how exactly does it change your "hard drive experience"? apart from you getting it out and going "oh its a rock"

put some mp3s on it and "rock out"!
Never drop it at a rocky beach!

good design love the emotional attachment you could develope with a rock... you would be lost if you left home without it! nice work
I think it a good idea to mix electronics with the natural elements. I don't see people buying this unless they have the same look to their house.
